RED BUTTON COMICS (86) (BALL BOMB)

This is a BALL bomb.
If I push the red button,
all of BALLs on Earth will be flying to the universe.
Then, what would happen?

MEMO

I happened to see a poem written in Korean with a moving image. The poem can be called 'electronic poem.' The term 'electronic poem' is coined by myself to designate my poems carrying images and videos as a specific category. You can access the electronic poem by clicking blog page below. The meaning of the poem's title is 'The Ball Is Flying to the Universe.' Of course, the inspiration for the cartoon came from this poem. The date of uploading the poem onto the blog was June 20, 2006 ! I have never imagined the 'electronic poem' emerged so early.

I translated the poem in English as below. I have never known and communicated with the poet, Chang-Yong Cha. Nevertheless, I had to make a free translation, because the sentiment expressed by the poem and background of the poem are local and unique, found only in Korea, and it is difficult for foreigners to understand the sentiment and background. As an example of free translation, Korean cities in the original poem were changed into London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Berlin and Shanghai in translation.

Fevernova is Flying to the Universe

Earth is rolling fast over there.
No! It’s not Earth.
It’s Fevernova – the ball more perfectly round than Earth.
It’s made for 2002 Worldcup.
Its name means ‘sacred fever.’
But the cool-headed creature says nothing as always.
It is rolling and rolling;
It is running and flying,
As much as the energy of the kick.
The sacred little star -
With 22.2cm in diameter and 450g in weight -
Fly high !
You’re shot like a jet -
Full of energy like a revolution.
You fly high in London
You fly high in New York
You fly high in Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, and Shanghai.
Strangely,
The fever of revolution for democracy is fading away;
The volcano of labor strike is burning alone.
O ! You ! – Yoga master !
With your body occupying the smallest earth,
With clothes made by starvation-wage labor of super-national corporations,
You’re shouting only the slogan – ‘Football is round.’
With your eyes shut,
Like the girl going blind in making your leather clothes,
Turning around slow – fast – faster,
Blowing a shrill whistle,
You - Earth is flying to the universe.
